New Zealand Earthquake
Hoping our Fordbarn members and friends in Christchurch and the surrounding areas are okay.
New Zealand Civil Defense issued a tsunami warning Sunday following a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake that jolted South Island. The tsunami threat covers the east coast of all New Zealand, officials said on Twitter, and waves could arrive immediately. "The tsunami may arrive in the Eastern Coast of the North Island shortly. Move inland or to higher ground immediately," the warning said. [Previous story published 7:35 a, ET] A powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand's South Island on Sunday, according to the US Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was about 50 km (31 miles) northeast of Christchurch city, which was devastated by a 2011 temblor. A tsunami is possible, New Zealand Civil Defense said on Twitter, warning people near the island's east coast to move to higher ground.

Re: New Zealand Earthquake
Thanks guys, been a bumpy night! All safe at my place, there is a bit of damage elsewhere, no deaths, which is the most important thing.

Re: New Zealand Earthquake
Latest news on tragedy on the east coast of the South Island two were killed in a house collapse .
Our friends from the South Island that attended Deuce days here in the North are apparently stuck here as the ferry is not sailing due to Tsunami risk and the east coast road is damaged. So our Amercian visitor Artist Tom Fritz that attended Deuce days was lucky to fly home just before the disaster and airports closed. |

Re: New Zealand Earthquake
Yep we rocked and rolled for about a minute early this morning.
No damage at home other than my parts shelves hitting the deck. My son in Wellington said it was pretty scary there - Karl |
