1939 Battery box removal

Before I get started is the battery box in my '39 truck cab just riveted in or are there spot welds as well? Who sells the best replacement box, or is there just a floor that replaces the original? Thanks, Bob

I don't think any body makes a replacement battery box for a 39 pickup. Bob Drake advertises his as fitting a 39 truck but it does not fit without modification. If I would have known at the time I would have had one made instead of buying one.

There was both rivet and spot welds on my 39 cab battery box and Dec21 is accurate that the Drake box is entirely different from whats needed. Modified it to fit but would make one if I had to do it again.

My Bob Drake catalog arrived and I'm looking at the battery box #78-7000740 on page 648, sure looks a lot like the one in my '39 pickup cab. What needs to be modified to make it fit? I'm not building a 100% spot or restoration, just a nice driver. Bob

The battery box Drake makes does not have the same sides on it and the pickup battery bolts for a 37-39 pickup are not the same as the passenger car ones. I bought one of Drake's boxes back when they came out based upon their advertisement and there was no way it would work without modification. I called them and told them but it was like talking to a wall. I sent it back at my expense, but I was out shipping costs both ways.
