Dave, I think I've seen maybe one other Model A with these plugs in the differential besides mine that is a Jan-4-1929 Tudor. On page 4-11 Revised 2011 of the JS & RG there is a comment some late 1928 vehicles may have a slot plug instead of the square hole. I've had some people comment they are Model T plugs, that I don't know. They might have been left over plugs Ford discovered and decided to use them up. Personally I'd prefer removing one of these to the square hole as I have a selection of drag link sockets and I am familiar with slotted plugs and steering plugs from having worked on ancient construction and mining equipment.

RE; I've had some people comment they are Model T plugs, that I don't know.
They are not T plugs, the T (1926/27) used a square hole pipe thread plug.

Interesting about the early plugs with the slot. Now this brings to mind the "Ford" adjustable wrench style that has the 3/8" square on the handle end that fits the socket drain plugs. I always thought that the adjustable wrench without the "square" was for the Model T, with the square for the "A". So now I see that the issue may be a bit more complicated.
