Taillight lens 36 Panel
Working on a 1936 Ford Panel Delivery and I am in need of a taillight.
Here is what it should look like. I have searched a little but haven't found any thing that looks like the one I need. Does anyone know where I might be able to find one? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Re: Taillight lens 36 Panel
What you have there is a 1929-31 Model A taillight (likely repro or early aftermarket) with a solid color lens. The rim and lens are not correct for the pickup or panel (1933-at least 1941). The taillight housing is basically the same as the panel.
The rim you need is very similar to a 1932 (Passenger or Commercial the same) except it has a countersink for oval head screws. The lens is similar to 1932 except it is slightly convex rather than flat (This might be also typical of late 1932... If DavidG will step in he is the expert on that). Most repro suppliers will show a taillight based on the 1933-36 passenger... This is just plain wrong, the error likely occurred as the correct lamps were no longer supplied by Ford when the "green bible" was published. |

Re: Taillight lens 36 Panel
Macdozer, Here are three pictures of a 1936 Ford Panel Delivery. If you look closely at the top picture, you will see that the Tail Light is the same as the 1932 Ford Tail Light. Unfortunately, I don't have any better pictures of the Tail Light on this 36 Ford, however, if you look at the bottom picture, it shows the same 1932 style Tail Light that was fitted to all Australian Ford Utes up to 1951. This is the Tail Light that you need for your 1936 Ford Panel Delivery. |

Re: Taillight lens 36 Panel
I managed to blow up the photos of the Tail Light on the 1936 Ford Panel Delivery in my previous Post. I hope that these pictures help in your restoration. |

Re: Taillight lens 36 Panel
The convex lens with two bulls eyes was a '33 model release even though it carried a B-prefix part number. It was used for a number of years with the countersunk hole rim as Karl indicates and shown in Trevor's photo with the Michigan license plate. The sideways-mounted rim and lens shown in Trevor's closeup photo is a mixture of a '32 flat lens and the post-'32 rim.
Because the commercial/truck license plates were mounted below the lamp, the two-bulb lamp housing was stamped "Duolamp" on the side opposite the opening for the license plate lamp lens so that it was readable in the installed position of the lamp assembly. Unlike the Model A through '34 stainless steel passenger car lamp housings, the commercial/truck housings were made of plain steel and painted (almost always in black). |
