Default Another rear wheel bearing question

As I refurbish the rear axle, I plan to have the wheel bearing surfaces on the horn of the axle housing turned down and press hardened sleeves on to restore the original bearing surface dimensions for the inner surface of the wheel bearing to run on.

I have also just become aware that the bearing surface inside the rear hub/drum may also be worn, and that I can have that machined to accept a sleeve that the outer surface of the wheel bearing will run on.

Has anyone had experience with resurfacing the bearing surface of the wheel hub ? If so, I would appreciate any guidance on doing this.

Thanks - Jim

They make a kit to repair the hub. https://www.brattons.com/rear-hub-re...d-bearing.html

I have had the surfaces sleeved on the axle housings a number of times for customers without a problem. Never had the drum hubs sleeved. I recommended that you locate a pair of original rear wheel bearings with the spirals. There are still plenty of serviceable ones around. The repos are hard on the mating surfaces. The originals seem to be of a more gentle material that does not wear on the hubs.

Bob, Tom - thanks for your responses - very helpful.

Tom - I’ve studied all your articles on refurbishing the rear axle - As I get into it this next week, I may have questions.....

Many thanks -
Jim
