School Bus ...... Flathead fuel pump
Anyone here, ever use a bus fuel pump ? At one time this was a pump sold by speed shops, for hot rodded flatheads. They are listed in the Ford green book, but not much info. on them.

Re: School Bus ...... Flathead fuel pump
Seems like they were pretty common on trucks in Canada in the fifties, I have had one on my '35 2 Ton for a couple years, and it starts right up after sitting all winter. ..B.

Re: School Bus ...... Flathead fuel pump
I thought the bus pumps were bigger around than what is pictured. A larger diameter diaphragm.

The ones I have are the same size as a 55-7 stovebolt v8. The work well but I would caution anyone about using old stock without changing the diaphram cause alky will eat it apart.

Re: School Bus ...... Flathead fuel pump
I guess the ones I spoke of weren't bus pumps then, because the "inverted" top bolts up to a regular 8BA diaphragm and base. ..B.

Re: School Bus ...... Flathead fuel pump
Yes, the one shown there is not a bus pump, which is noticeably larger.
I think what you have is an aftermarket assembly of Ford (normal size) base and a top from some other application. I have seen similar in the chrome gadget section of 1950's speed catalogs...glass dome chromed replacement pumps, just shiny, no higher volume. On the stovebolt connection...I seem to remember that a further high volume enhancement of the bus pump for racing flatheads was the addition of later 1950's Corvette upper casting, which if I remember correctly had six valves rather than two! |
