Smile ignition resister

just fried a subaru resister on my front mount point type dizzy. (before you all start on the subby issue, one of my "knowledgable" flathead friends recommended this same resister as the best choice for this application). it worked for quite awhile, actually tonite, and quit. my question to the forum is: what are you guys using, hopefully american made? i promise no more jap parts on the old f/h. thanks

If it worked for "quite awhile" what's the problem?
Even some " american made" parts don't last forever

What is the application? 6v? Which coil are you using?

Some old Fords use a ballast resistor and some don't. Definitely have to be specific about model year & system voltage. Also the type of ignition coil being used would be helpful.

this is a rod, 21a '42 dizzy with points, 12 volt, blue bosch coil. the subaru resistor was on the car for maybe 2 years, but not a lot of miles. i have repaired cars for over 50 years with hundreds of subbys in my shop, (i'm in vermont remember, the subaru is like the state car in the winter here), and i have never replaced a resistor on one so i guess i expected more than i got. perhaps a fluke. still would like to try something else hence my original question.

Mn'er. Subaru's are great cars.

Maybe look into why a resister would fail over a factory issue. Maybe with a computer controlled unit it would never get more then 12v or was conditioned lower "?... I have no idea"

Your charging system on a 12v basic battery/electrical system would have spikes of charging (14v or more). Over time what would that do???

Just a thought. but ?

As I understand it, if you are in fact using a 12 volt Bosch blue coil, it does not require a ballast resistor.

That is right, no resistor with the Bosch blue coil.

The Bosch Blue coil needs no resistor , it has a 3 ohm winding in it.......
