Since it was mentioned earlier. Here is a picture of the manifold and carb for my in progress build. A Rochester 2G on a Merc aluminum intake. This will be my third engine with this setup.Ol Ron over ten years ago told me about this setup. It's simple, no vacuum advance, a Bubba distributor and about 270 CFM it's great and trouble free for a mild flathead.

If you take the hollow side entry top off of a '49 - '51 Merc carb, it looks like the '52 thru '53 Merc carb. Therefore I consider the '49 to '51 carb in the teapot category too. Same basic design.

Right, the only people that use them are people with '49 - '51 Mercs and Lincolns.

Pete,

Did you modify your manifold to match the throttle bores on the carb? I believe that, while a small base 2GC will bolt right up to a Merc manifold, the bores in the manifold are about 1/8" smaller than the carb.

Merc's and Lincolns weren't the only ones to use them.
GMC and other manufacturers used them on commercial vehicles.

My 885 is leaking fuel from the linkage rod that goes up into the carb, how do I fix that?

Really like your setup Pete

Would an 8BA intake and a Holley 94 carb work in your Merc.?
I had that set up in my 40 and it ran great.
Or, use a 3 bolt adapter on your stock Merc intake.

It sounds like you have a bowl leak under the shroud. You will have to remove the shroud and find where it's leaking. Heavy handed mechanics can do more damage than good if they aren't careful at reassembly on these. The pot metal warps easily and the fit between the bowl and the base can be compromised.

If you still have that 885 Holley in the attic, I could surely use it. Let me know at [email protected], Thanks Bill Nelson
