Can anyone identify this carburettor?
I have bought an engine recently, and this carburettor was attached. I cannot identify it, as it looks different to a Tillotson. Please can someone help?

Re: Can anyone identify this carburettor?
That is a Marvel Schebler. Sold aftermarket, a very good running and simple carb. You are missing the choke driver, a hard to find part for it.

Renners Corner is your resource for parts. This is a nice running carb. Idles good and has a built in accelerator pump. It's pot metal but tends to hold up better than the Tillotson carbs. http://rennerscorner.com/index.html

Earl Bessom was a product design engineer for the Wheeler-Schebler Carburetor company. He came into their employ in 1914 as a representative with much experience in the carburetor field*. The filing date for this design was 1917 and the patent issue was 1925. The patent lists Wheeler-Schebler as assignor. Wheeler-Schebler later became the Marvel Carburetor company. *Reference: Automobile Topics vol. 32, 1/31/1914 page 986 |

Re: Can anyone identify this carburettor?
TinCup above cites Renners as a potential source of parts for the Marvel carb. He's right. Looks like they might have the missing choke driver:
RC-9570-AL Description: GAV NEEDLE DRIVER Comments: For ALLSTATE 2405 carburetors ( JOHNSON JFA MARVEL SCHEBLER ) Application: 1928-34 $ 40.00 (The part shown looks correct but it's hard to say with certainty) Contact info: RENNER'S CORNER EARLY FORD PARTS 10320 E. Austin Rd Manchester, Michigan 48158-9545 Phone: 1-734-428-8424 Monday - Saturday: 10AM-4PM EST Fax: 1-734-428-1090 email: [email protected] Hope I'm right about the part. It's expensive but they are great carbs. You don't want to know what I did to mine in mating a standard Zenith/ Tillotson GAV driver to the Marvel. But it worked and performs extremely well albeit with a little less fuel economy. Peyton |
