Default 1929 Front brake drums

The front drums on my 1929 Model A (RDSTRPU PURCHASED 1970) look exactly the same. They measure the same, EXCEPT the braking surface on one measures 1 3/4" and the other measures 1 7/8". The smaller one fits correctly. The larger one doesn't because it hits the backing plate (NO BRAKES INSTALLED). Anyone ever encountered this before?

Talked to one long time A owner today who says he had to use a washer once behind the bearing, but didn't know why and now suspects he had the same kind of drum.

It MAY have come to me with a washer installed in 1970 ??? I don't know, but I am planning on putting a washer behind the inner wheel bearing to move it out 1/8".

I am curious. Anyone know about these drums.
