Took 39 standard coupe for 1st outing after winter.
Good 2.5hrs open road driving no hassles.
Round town driving turned into car park and engine died!!
Would not start. Checked under hood wiggled resistor, leads all tight.
Startup again not problems and same for homeward journey of 2.5 hrs engine ran with out a hiccup.

Could this small failure be down to condenser as engine just died.
This seems like a good area to start.
running divers helmet distributor, original coil mounted on top with inline resistor.
assistance appreciated.

I would try a NAPA # IH-200 ,screw the bracket and cond. to the right side of the coil screw and the pig tail lead to the brass tab that the old stock cond. was. These work great and are pretty reliable. I know dont look stock but work much better than the repo units made today. ken ct USA

Be careful of the Mallory 'gold' condensers. Just because it is new...
I had about 125 miles on a one these condensers and it quit.

Thanks for advice, Will look to replacement of condenser with good quality Napa as advised.

Bubba's has very good USA condensers.

The guys in my area have had a rash of new condensers going bad lately. Chinese junk - probably.

Back in the late 40's and 50's parts stores all over the country rebuilt distributors and other parts. I knew one guy that worked for a store that had stores in Pa. and a few in Fl. About 25 years ago in the Fl. store he told me that when in Pa. they got rid of all the old distributor parts at a dump. He said the parts like points and condensers came in large cardboard drums and he took drums of parts and spread them out. There are still large numbers of parts like these that surface all the time. They still look brand new and I suspect a lot of these condenser failures are very old stock VOS (new term).
