Question Rear Wheel Hub - Repair or Replace?

I'm assembling an A rear end. I wondering who out there has any experience with the hub repair sleeve and the small roller bearing. Does this repair work or should one just order the new hubs at considerably more cost. Do you use the same seal with the repair kit or does it use a smaller one?

Yes the repair seems to work but generally what helps you determine the correct route is whether you are just repairing a hub that already has a drum on it. Remember the price of the hub is just the beginning. Then you must factor in the costs to install a drum and swage new studs in. That might also include removing the drum from your existing hub.

Brents assessment makes a lot of sense to me. From an implementation standpoint; I can vouch for the quality and ease of the repair. The components seem to be well built, and the kits come with everything needed including the loctite to affix the new race. It's pretty slick.

That hub "repair sleeve" is what Ford used in 36 as original equipment so that life was improved.

Thanks for your replies fellows! I'm installing new drums either way. I'm just interested in finding out if the repair sleeve and bearing would be able to run say 20,000 miles without a failure. I don't want to have to do the job twice.

At this point, I would just look for another hub! There is still some good used ones out there..... and the price is reasonable. The new ones are really nice and well made, but they are expensive. Quality usually is, you get what you pay for.

The repair sleeve can be hardened more than the stock hub, in theory it should last longer ----

The 46 I had was worn in the hub, metal missing, cleaned it out, put in a good used bearing, it went much more than 20,000 miles.
