Default Great day at Hershey

So I walked just over 13 miles of swap meet, and only saw about 2/3 of the vendors. had to leave without doing the last 1/3, musta wore the wrong shoes.
Model A parts everywhere you looked, some real bagins if it's what you were looking for. Weren't as big of a crowd as you would have thought for such a nice day. Met some great model A'ers, some turned out to be practically neighbors. Wasn't really looking for anything this trip, but did come home with a 1.00 rad. Support rod for 28-29 with original nuts and serated edge washers, a 5.00 tool bag, a 5.00 screw in gas tank screen, a 10.00 complete terminal box-base, lid, wing nuts, Robertson mounting screws and washers. A 3.00 toggle switch which could be used on a mail truck, for the cargo light, and a 250.00 NOS wide bed drivers rear fender. Fender has a little pitting from bad storage, but still very solid. Ran into another fellow that found a wide bed fender for the same money.

Good finds, Steve.

I head up tomorrow in my 1930 sedan. I figure it will take 4 hrs, and I can't leave as early as I would like. I am getting home from a business trip around midnight tonight.

I shouldn't whine. At least I am going.

I was there Wednesday and was fortunate (according to them) enough to have gotten the last scooter ! ! Therefore I was able to see about 90% of the show. Had a great time. Met some nice people and able to hook up with Barry B. Ma for lunch and some sight seeing.

I'm glad you got a chance to go, Paul. I knew you'd enjoy it. Maybe I'll hitch a ride with you next time.

Have you notice how fat these people are who ride in the electric golf carts. No skinny ones. Loose the weight people.

I never ride the scooters, but I'm still too fat.

Steve, I'm glad you found some bargains, I found a couple too! But mostly, I was looking at items and putting them down again I did find a chrome spare cover and a B cam and some odds and ends. I guess I'm a "Glass is half empty" kind of person. I had plenty of money this time, but I wasn't spending it all on one or two pieces.Things I didn't see were Autolite Heater covers, Sets of adjustable lifters The panels that go over the doors on a Briggs Town Sedan. Things that I need. I did see a lot of overpriced "Stuff" ( I'm being polite). The worst part was I have a pretty nice 29 RR sedan fender that I couldn't get $125 out of. Or a 30 Briggs RR door with good wood that I'm reaching for $75 for. Those and a few other items went unsold. So, For me, Hershey was a big disappointment. Don't even know if I'll go next year, and it's only two hours away.

Hey Terry, sorry to hear your time there was less than ideal, I've too noticed parts being a hard sell lately. Not sure why, I guess 'want' runs in spurts. My findings were people eager to haggle the 'sticker price'. The fender I got was marked at 400, but he came off that price just to not have to take it home. I tend to go with not looking to find anything, so when I do run across something, great, if I don't, no lost expectations. I have never tried the seller end there, if I did, it may skew my outlook. I get little time to enjoy the hobby, I just enjoy seeing all the 'stuff'. Scrolling through posts, I see I missed your booth near the ice cream truck, too bad we didn't meet. My one big gripe is the isle changes in that field, I got really turned around near you twice, probably why I missed you. Don't count out next year, it may be a good one for you!

Steve, You probably didn't miss me, we were on the other side of the MARC tent, pole #38 with two T s ,a 23 "paddy Wagon and a 26 station wagon. Both in pretty nice shape. We had a steady stream of guys looking and taking pics, but no solid offers. Ron likes to create a little display with stuffed animals ( I think it's just this side of stupid) But it seems to work. This was my first year as a vendor and it kinda turned me off. I used to love Hershey, but about two days of it (Wed and Fri) are all I can take, and that's as a buyer. As a seller, It's everything you ever hated about selling.

I slept in my van in the camping area and got kicked out in the morning for not registering as I was leaving anyway. Then I picked up my brookville roadster body and my FRame and title from a nice guy in Texas and I was a happy camper headed to nj. Roadster in the van and the brookville guys helped me put the frame on the roof. Nice guys from Ohio. I was almost forced to wait til 4am but got in and tipped the security on the way out for not making me wait til 4. Came back the next day w my son who bought a lot of toy cars and trains. Many of the vendors were really nice and we're giving them away free to the kids. Overall a good experience, sat was a ghost own but chocolate world was nice.

this was my 3rd year of vending at Hershey. talked to some very nice people . bought a few parts, sold a few. delt with a few that wernt so nice . cant say Ill do it again. love walking and trying to find parts for my cars. been going since 1975 ,walked in mud up over the tops of my shoes back in the day and it was still more fun than trying to sell parts to some people. hope I can get a little motivation from this

I took just a few things to sell again this year. Stuck my wife with the selling as I enjoy walking and looking too much. Traffic was down in the Green Field but sold just about everything I took. Could not believe the amount of T stuff that was for sale. Covered the entire flea market twice in 3 1/2 days. Not bad for 73. Saw quite a few JC Whitney type model A horns for $80 to $100. Some were marked original. Worst buy I saw was a Model A oilpan for $100. No, it was not a very early or late one. I was hoping to find a 36 radio head for a descent price, but no luck. Overall, great weather and show.

This was my 12th year at Hershey. Didn't buy much but there are not too many very early 1928 (ve28) parts out there. These days I get wish lists from buddies and try to help them out with a few items. Great time seeing friends and making connections.

Not only do I look for parts but I enjoy going through the car corral. This year it seemed very heavy with those giant cars from the 70's with low miles. The prices of most of the Model A's in the corral seemed to be a bit on the high side.

I averaged about 7 miles and about three hours of conversation per day. Already looking forward to next year.
