Default Repairing 1935 tail light stands.

I have a '35 tail light stand with both studs broken and looking for ideas on how to repair it. My This is not going to be re-painted as we are trying to preserve the patina. Since the studs are sort of captive in the base, it is not possible to drive them out with out taking the thing apart. So, since they are essentially carriage bolts, my idea is to cut slots in the base and try to slide them out.
Anyone dealt with this? Have a better idea?

Quickfix would be a stud with different size threads...drill and tap the broken off part with a smaller diameter...

Carriage bolts are spot welded to base. I would carefully grind off stud flush with base and then drill through the centre of stud 5/16, insert a new bolt and secure with a dab of mig, therefore preserving the paint.

I was thinking about that as well. I agree that it is a better option and will give it a go.

This is what I have done in the past and was an easy fix. Quite often when you grind it flush the original head can be knocked out allowing you to use a carriage bolt

Is there enough bolt left to use a nut and all-thread w/ thread locker to extend the stud?

Fixed. Ground bolts flush with base, drilled out and tapped to 1/4" Then used studs with washers and nuts.
