1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Could anyone assist me with the accurate specification/measurements of the door glass on the 29 Closed Cab Pickup. I am based in the UK, so it's difficult to buy off the shelf, but though local contacts and recomendation, there is a company close to me that will cut and shape the glass who have done some good work for a friends 32 sedan.
I purchased the pickup about a year ago and the existing door glass has been very crudely cut and does not run in the channels well, so I have no pattern to work from. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Lil Nick
Do you have a copy of the Ford Service Bulletins? There is a page - 250 that has drawings and dimensions of the various glass used in model A's. The information is for 1928 model A's, however a 28 and 29 pickup or AA truck cab are the same. As a summary, the 28 AA truck (same as a 28/29 CC pickup) the door window glass height is 19" to 19 1/16" one one side and 19 7/8" to 19 15/16" on the other side and the width is 25 7/16" to 25 1/2". I don't quite understand why the two sides are a different length, but that is what the bulletins show. The corners are rounded so as not to "dig" into the side window strips and the edges are polished. It also shows the bottom edge has the glass slightly beveled to 45 degrees to make it easier to install in the metal window regulator channel. Hope this helps. Hi Rusty
Thank you for your reply. I don't have a copy of the Ford Service bulitins, do you know if this is something that I can purchase, and where I might but the bulitins from. Thank you for the measurements, which is really helpful. It would be great to get the bulitins, so I can copy the diagram for the glass company. Again, thank you for your help. Regards Nick. |

The service bulletin books are avaialble from your favorite Model A Parts supplier, MAFCA, or MARC. Make sure you get the full size ones (8-1/2 X 11) and not the smaller yellow hard bound book.

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Hey Don, isn't it amazing how someone can explain something and it all suddenly makes perfect sense.
When I bought the truck, the previous owner had some glass cut fairly crudely, i.e. no beveled edges, but he also had the glas cut straight across. This would explain why the fit is so poor. Although I am a member of several forums in the UK, today is my first day on the Ford Barn forum. I am overwhelmed by the amount of help and advise offered. Thank you so much. Regards Nick. |

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Thanks Ed, that's really helpful. I was advised by the previous owner that the pickup originated from South America, so it's likely that the spec is the same as you would know it.

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Got any pics Nick?
South American cars can have some fairly unusual specs... I've just had some side glass cut from an original pattern. If I can find it I'll stick some pics up with measurements. Cheers Juggs |

Juggs, if you have a copy of the pattern, that would also be really helpful. I just want to accumulate all the information I can to ensure getting it right first time.
Many thanks. Nick. |

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Nick - as it happens I will be passing your door next Thursday evening (4th Oct) on my way to the Prescott hillclimb. I could drop off my glass for you to get copied and pick it up on my return, which will be the Monday or Tuesday the following week. Can your glass guys turn it round that quick?
Please bear in mind that mine is a copy of what could well have been a copy and that it is metric thickness, as near as my glass guy could get to what he was copying (which again might not have been original spec), and that I have not tried to fit it yet. So basically no guarantees. You are welcome to try it in your door for fit, but if you break it you bought it Pm me your number and postcode and we'll sort something out Regards Juggs |

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Hey Juggs, didnt appreciate you were in the UK. The car is not currently stripped out as it is in a fully finished condition, but i did not put it together there are a number of iitems that i am not really happy with, one of which is the window glass. I will also put all new runners in at the same time. So although I really appreciate your very generous offer, I am probably not ready to work that quickly. Hopefully if i can provide the glass company with enough accurate specification information, they should be able to produce something pretty accurate. From all the really helpful posts, I am starting to get a picture of the spec and requirements. I have also ordered a copy of the Model A Service Bulitins to assist. I just need to make sure I got things like the contour of the top corners of the glas and some of those sort of details. Really appreciate your help though, thank you.

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
No problem at all
Offer stands if you need it. Presently in East Suffolk but travel back and forth to Bath every couple of months. Suggest you transfer the specs from your research onto some stiff card and give that to the glass guy as a template rather than just relay the figures. Come on, put some pics up and show us what your are working on. Mines as per my avatar and album. Nearly finished the motor now (Winfield head and cam on a B block) and trying to get it on the road before I head back to the States in November. Best of luck Juggs |

Re: 1929 Closed Cab Pickup Door Glass.
Hi Juggs
I think that's a great idea, where I will mock up patterns off the specification, once I am confident that I have all the detail. I want to make sure I have the contours correct on the top corners of the glass etc. with all the information supplied and with the assistance of the Service Bulitins I have ordered, hopefully I am not far from a lot of the detail. I will put some pictures up. Currently trying to learn how to use the forum, as I only joined yesterday. Overwhelmed by the generosity of support and help. Cheers Nick. |
