Default New CAM

I was just reading the threads on installing a new cam with the engine in the car.

Why do you have to remove the oil pan? I was able to get mine in without removing the oil pan did I mss something?

You have to remove the pan to change the lifters. You must have adjustables already in place. I hope

Yes I had adjustable lifters and just wired them up to hold them up.

Thanks

I changed a cam several years ago and used clothes pins to hold up the lifters.

The lifters would have to be perfect, or they should be changed along with the new cam. If a cam lobe is worn I'd think at least that one lifter would be also.

Tom made a very important point. I make it a policy to always install new lifters with a new cam. For me, it is a carryover from overhauling aircraft engines and, I believe, cheap insurance for maximum longevity.
