Default Anyone have a close up picture of a '28 crank hole cover assembly?

Would really appreciate seeing a close up picture of how the rivet holds the crank hole cover on a '28 grille shell. I'm assuming there is some type of spring that provides tension to keep the cover from swinging back and forth.

Hi Tim,
No, I believe no spring.. The cover does swing around on mine. I pulled a piece of fishing line around the rivet to stop it.
Can't post a photo as I am visiting in the UK for another week.

OK, thank you. Hhhmmm, I may rig up a spring set-up to keep it from tic-toc around.

I got these pictures from Dave Lopes a number of years ago. There is a special nickel plated tubular high dome rivet used to attach the cover to the shell for 28's and into 29. Parts suppliers sell the wrong rivet - their rivet is a very low dome and not correct. There are 2 washers (a flat washer and a lock washer) used on the inside of the shell. The lock washer it used to allow the cover to turn, but keep pressure on the cover to prevent rattling. I installed the cover on my 28 special coupe like this and it looks and turns good. Doc Kalinka sold me a couple of the special rivets he had made and nickel plated. I have three vehicles that will require the special rivets.

In the 80's I had an A coupe and I was also bothered by the loose cover. Instead of a plain rivet, I used a threaded rivet with a spring. If I remember right, it took a fairly stiff spring to make it feel right. If I were to do it again, I may try a couple of belleville washers instead.

Rusty:

Thank you. For sure I have the wrong rivet. Mine is the one you describe.

OK, now I'm determined to make this work.

Nice pic iverson.

So refreshing to see what they were really like, after the cheap repo crap we have to fit.

Fellas

Are the correct rivets still available? I know someone mentioned a supplier in an above post.

The repop one is a joke.
