Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
A friend recently acquired a Gibbons Sedan Delivery conversion on a '29 Tudor. How much longer is the original Ford Sedan Delivery. I know wheel bases are the same. I'm interested in the body length. Where can I look for dimensioned drawings? Thanks

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
It's my understanding that the sedan deliveries (28-29) are the same basic body as a tudor just with the rear door and panelled in quarter windows. The longer body came about with the Deluxe delivery (30-31)

Russ,
The 1929 Tudor and Deluxe Delivery have the same bodies except in the upper panel stampings. The Tudor rear window is shorter than the Delivery advertising panel and the Delivery side rain gutters are longer. Illustration with measurements for the Tudor, p.42 'Ford Model A Restoration Manual A-1' by FoMoCo 1955. JB |

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
there is a great side by side photo of an original 28-29 tudor body and an original 28-29 sedan delivery body in a MAFCA Restorer letter to the editor in the mid 70's I recall.
The photo has the 2 bodies standing vertically on the firewall, and clearly shows that the sedan delivery has a much longer side window and a much shorter rear section than the tudor body. Someone with the MAFCA digital archive CD could dig this out and reprint it here to show the difference. I have no idea which version of the 28-29 Gibbon copied. Just for reference, in 1932 Ford only made the tudor body in 1 configuration and then either filled the rear side windows with glass for the tudor or steel inserts for the sedan delivery. |

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
I just traded a tudor sedan that I had converted to become a deluxe delivery by buying the correct upper metal panels, rear center section and door. They fit perfectly with the exception of the rain gutters on the delivery being longer than the tudor. I even found a stock tool box from a high point restoration delivery that had been sold to a rodder who had no use for the tool box. When I first started the project an acquaintance in the Auburn area was doing the same thing I was, but with a Gibbons kit. They look very much identical to the untrained eye that cant see plastic and know it from steel. I couldn't tell without wrapping on a panel with my knuckle and getting the dull thud sound. Other than that the Gibbons looked great.

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
Is the sedan delivery same as a panel delivery? Or a panel truck?

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
I could easily measure mine if you like. The panels are leaning up against the wall but it's a 31 and I think they are different than a 28-29. It seems to me, IIRC, I was told that my 31 is 8" longer than a sedan.

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
#7 I think that the terms are synonymous. #8 A measurement from the center of the wheel well to the bottom of the rearmost body will be appreciated. Thanks

I will get you that measurement this morning. I don't think the terms are synonymous. A sedan delivery and a panel delivery are two different animals. The panel delivery is larger and more square with a higher roof

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
30.5 inches from the centre of the wheel opening (in line with the top fender mounting bolt) and the rear most edge of the panel (next to the rear door jamb)

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
I just checked MODEL A FORD GARAGE and there is no Sedan Delivery listed. "Sedan Delivery" must be a local use of a later term......my bad! Listed were, "Panel Delivery; Deluxe Delivery; Town Car Delivery; Special Delivery and Postal Delivery". Thanks to all respondents.

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
Thanks for the photos #15. The A my friend has looks to be the Deluxe Delivery. I think that he will be pleased with the info. His is steel, so probably not a Gibbons conversion. PO told him that the conversion was to a Tudor. It already has been modified with juice brakes and an Iron Duke/'39 box. It came with Moss Green paint in a can. He will be happy to see the photo with white walls. I think all his cars have them. The finished product will look stock to the casual observer.

Russcociolo
You'll find that to be a keen car when done. That's the one I spoke of yesterday. It is all steel and everything on the car from the belt line down is tudor, with the modifications. Everything above the belt line on the body west of the windshield is de luxe delivery, original steel. I was just too old and tired to finish it up. |

Re: Ford Sedan Delivery vs Gibbons conversion
Supposedly JPM Hot Rods has the Gibbons molds - dunno if they're producing the delivery kit. You might try contacting them: http://www.jpmhotrods.com/ |
