Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
I am leaning towards a Stromberg 97. All stock at the moment and it runs great, yes I know...why mess with it? Because I can, and want to!

Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
I have a Stromberg 97 and an FS Zipper. Very pleased with that set-up.

Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
Bill. I was just looking for advice and opinions...so "what I heard" did not jive with your experience and now your "sorry I posted anything"? I value and respect your knowledge and opinion along with everyone else's here. Sorry, if you took that as disregarding your help? That was not my intention. I received my B distributor today from Ken Parker and guess I will just forge on with my plan.

Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
Yes please post how it goes! I'm running a B head at the moment, plan on using a Holley 94 and headers, also researching which distributor to buy. Curious how much the B dist will "wake the car up" compared to manually adjusting, and if the Mallory is much better than the B.

I was surprised at how comprehensive the kit was, with coil, shaft and Nu Rex timing indicator. The installation was simple although I felt regret at losing the manual advance and retard and associated linkages, the winged distributor cap and the theft proof cable. The engine bay does look tidier. To my delight, the cold motor started more promptly than normal and idled smoothly. There was no pinking which could happen previously with indelicate use of the throttle and with the spark advanced a fraction too far. I had convinced myself that the idling problems I was experiencing was because the twin Stromberg carburettors were causing the motor to be over-carburetted, but the Mallory distributor provided perfect idling. Most importantly the motors rev range has been improved and the all round driveability has been substantially improved. Whilst no longer looking original, this improvement is really worthwhile. |

Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
I have an FS Ignition's distributor called the "Zipper" installed in my 31 coupe. It looks like a stock "A" distributor and has counter weights for the centrifugal advance function. It also has a solid state electronic ignition module in place of points. This unit makes driving my A a real joy. Engine starting is virtuallly instant. Traveling up hills provides automatic advance for optimal engine performance. The advance retard lever on the column is locked and is strictly used for looks.

Re: Looking for a centrifugal advance distributor
Bert's for the distributor Dave Renner for the modern top plate. It's a thing of beauty.
