engine noise
I have a noise in my engine, there since day one of new engine, it's a clack or slap noise. Re set lifters no differance still there, removed timing cover to see if spring on cam plunger broken or missing, everything o.k. Noted the seat for cam button was loose fitting sloppy, wandering if that could cause the noise? the noise sometimes gone when I start motor, then becomes more pronounced as it warms up and may go away when fully warmed up. Seems to come from timing gear area, have aluminum timing gear, everything looks o.k.

Re: engine noise
Just a guess, any chance there is a gen, or alt, bearing going out/ When I try to find noises, I use a piece of hose held to my ear to track things down.

Re: engine noise
Change the gear to a fiber gear or put up with it. Some of the aluminum gears will clik or knock when running. It won't hurt anything but, is annoying.

Re: engine noise
the noise is from timing gear region I've used a stethoscope tool to narrow it down, I think James is correct when I looked nothing appeared to stand out as the cause of noise. Aside from noise it's a good powerful motor. may try a fiber gear. Thanks for help good to have a few opinions.

Re: engine noise
Could also be lifters loose in the block caused by worn block. Cure is oversize lifters and reamed block to fit, or just don't worry about it.
