OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
Over the couple of years that I've been a member on this site, I've begun to realize that many of you own SEVERAL MODEL A's. I have ONLY ONE.
It's made me wonder how many others ONLY OWN ONE Model A. So this is my Question; How many of you Only Own One ???? |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I've owned several over the last 40+ years (as many as 3 at one time), but I still have one, the first one, the one that I bought in high school. A lot of memories in that one!

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
Well what do you mean by only owning one Model A?
Do you mean how many cars do you have on the street drivable? Just a full car that you are restoring? What about enough parts to build several other cars, but they were never bought as whole cars and they are really not 'cars' per se? Some guys have one or two "cars" and 6 barns full of parts. |

I have noticed that once you have one, others tend to follow it home!! They are habit forming. Have only two, working on purchasing a third.

I only have the one 40B Dlx.
If I ever run across another unmolested original, I would consider adding on. Otherwise, I saving my money for a Duesy SJ. :roll eyes: Could be awhile.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I've really only got room for the one. But, I am itching for a second one.
That's what happened with my motorcycles. It is hard to drive and restore the same machine. You don't want to take it apart because then you can't drive it. So I got a second bike and tore that one down to its nuts and bolts. It is now about 80% finished. When I get that one on the road, I will tear apart the other. I would like to do the same with the Model A...but where to put the second?...

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I purchased my first Model A (Town Sedan) in 1964. My Dad was ripped, it was totally disassembled. I sold it in 1998 when I retired because I had a disassembled 32 5-window that really needed a lot of attention. It eventually took me 28 years to find all the required parts and finish the restoration. I had to be retired to have the time to finish the restoration. But along the way, with no old car to drive I purchased a running 1914 Model T in 2006. In my opinion everyone should have the experience of driving the car that put America on wheels. It is very different and you have to get into a different frame of mind when you start to push on those pedals. Four years later, the 32 Coupe was completed and it is like driving a new 32 Ford. It is wonderful. Unfortunately, now there were no cars to restore. It is sad to say but I think I am happier when I am under an old car than in it!
My favorite Model A body style was the slant windshield Cabriolet and in April, 2010 I found a 31 Cabriolet on eBAY only 200 miles from my house. I had a bookmark set for Model A Cabriolet and I couldn't believe my good fortune when it popped up and was for sale so close to home. I had checked this bookmark everyday and it took 3 years for it to happen. I was standing next to this car 24 hours later and bought it with all its rusty floor pans, rotten wood, poor paint and incorrect top and upholstery. Oh, what fun and another old car to get under. It is the best hobby. Ed |

Just have the one in my avatar and it's not finished yet. I would some day like to have a 30 or 31 CCPU and a sedan delivery and a leather back fordor. I have the room but not the funds.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
One, and one only - "Annie" our family Ford. She is a '30 Deluxe Coupe purchased by Dad in 1958 from the original owner Annie. That was $85.00 well spent Dad - Thanks!
By the way. Have you noticed just how many A's are uncovered in various barns, garages and buildings on programs like "American Pickers? Any number of Fords are hidden away in these locations awaiting the day for someone to fire'm up and head down the "Ford Road". Have a great weekend guys - Shec Last edited by SHEC; 01-20-2012 at 12:02 PM. Reason: More thoughts |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
What you see <------- is what I have. If I were to get another one, it would be a '31 Coupe. Would have to build that "bigger barn" to accomodate it though.
Others currently in the stable: 1992 Ford Explorer 1993 Ford Explorer 2004 Ford Explorer Previous A's that I have had: (a really long time ago) 1931 AA 280A 1931 Fordor Last edited by CarlG; 01-24-2012 at 07:51 PM. Reason: Add to the list |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
Another side note: if you folks watch "American Pickers" on television - have you noticed just how many A's are forgotten or hidden away all around the country? In barns, garages, various buildings, or just out in the field, the Fords are waiting for someone to fire them up and roll. Lets see if we can do just that.
Very interesting! Shec |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I've got two. Both drivers.
I've been driving my bone stock '28 Special Coupe for 23 or so years now, and just this fall acquired a '31 pickup from my brother. Dad has a '28 pickup which he has had since about 1960. I'm pretty sure that pile of parts will wind up here too. I'm blessed. Two Harley's, two A's, no payments, no worries.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I read some time ago in one of the National "A" publications that the average (at the time) club member had three A's. Since then, I have convinced my wife that she doesn't want me to be average, so I now have six. Gar Williams

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
A's are like chips top me - just can't stop at one. I've owned 6 and presently own 4 (30 townsedan Murry, 30 Briggs fordor, 30 tudor standard sedan, and a 30 deluxe coupe in progress). Like many I am limited by time, money and space. Lucky for me the wife's only concern is that I don't drive them enough.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I see you got very few responses from people with just one,as you were looking for. Most of the ones that posted they only have one, seem to be on the lookout for another.I have three on the road and one more in a basket. Each one I have has something the others don't.I only have one closed car,a Tudor,so I like that one for cold weather or carrying people.I have an open cab pickup,I can carry things, that one is zippy, nice to drive.I have a roadster,I like it as it is a tight low mile car.I like to fold the windshield down flat and race it around on hot nights. But,I have motorcycles that I do that with more often. They're the same as A's.I think I have six motorcycles right now.Plus some old scooters and mini bikes I had as a kid.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I have one, two, or three, depending how/what you count.
A coupe, cabriolet and closed cab PU, all 1929s. The coupe is running, but not fully together, and is built with many reproduction parts and a non-year matching, 1930 modified motor. The closed cab is a running hot rod, but almost no original Model A parts except for the two doors and A pillars. The after-market industry for Model A parts is amazing! Together, you can count these first two as being just one Model A, if you wish. The cabriolet is not running, but is mostly original sheet metal (except floor pans) and has original frame and motor. It is the ONE. |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I onmly have one. I've recently bought a 68B cabriolet that needs a whole lot of work. My first...and I expect it to keep me busy for several years before I consider getting another. I am having fun...just need more time and money. I also have my dad's old 74' F100 supercab that he bought new. That keeps me busy too. You can still find good parts in junk yards for that one. I am hoping my kiddos have fun with me on these projects too.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I own just one Model A, a 1930 Ford Model A Murray Town Sedan. Just payed for it today actually. I own 13 different cars currently and will keep buying them as long as I can afford to! I dont think there is limit to how many cars one can own. If your having fun buying and collecting cars, then why stop?
Nice thread! Very interesting!

Started out with just one for about two years, my 29 coupe. Now I have three. It is a addiction.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
Well, I can say that I not only own my first ever Model A Coupe, "Miss Tillie", but I also built my first-ever VW Dunebuggy in 1968 and I'm still driving it, still looks good. (@ 40 mpg too). That's not to mention 3 snowmobiles (one of which I rode yesterday for the first time this season), a Quad ATV, 2 trucks and a CRV. My wife says we're going Insurance broke..

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I've been searching for a Model A or T for many years without breaking the bank...Finally one came to me out of the blue just 10 miles from home 3 weeks ago. A 1930 Tudor Sedan in need of some work, cheap, and now I can build it the way I want. It's fun imagining what life must have been like back then, I'm even searching everywhere for period correct items to use or display. Remember the old Sears catalogs, I do, you know the ones from the 70's, they were HUGE. And them there Wards Catalogs, WOW.
I own many old and even older Volkswagens, three 1st Gen RX7's, a couple classic Camaros, and now will be looking for more Model A's or even a T. |

I only have one Model A (1930 coupe) but have owned it since 1957. Also have a 1946 Ford Coupe, bought it about 1978 or so.

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I only have 1. As per your original question of who has only 1 Model A. I too have a few other toys, such as a high end custom Harley, an 07 Ultra Classic Harley. I sold my other "A" project to focus on finishing the Coupe restoration. I am looking to buy another with patina when I finsh this resto. I look the unrestored look of my car before the resto started.

Wow, and from the sounds of it those teenage girls are blessed to only have a few wrecked cars on their conscience. Glad you're ok and that you have others! As for me I've only got one (which used to be my grandfathers). My garage and budget are unfortunately too small for me to afford more at the age of 31. Maybe by the time I"m in my 60s or 70s I'll have that shop with the lift and at least one more... For now the wife, home and (one day) family are taking up the rest of the budget. I'm thankful I get to tinker with my 31 coupe and the fact that I finnally own my own home (and garage) where I can work on it! |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
Originally we had the 31 Tudor Sedan but this past summer I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to own a 1930 Deluxe Roadster that I caught wind of. So currently I have 2 Model A’s, Snowmobile and a tuned Lexus IS300 when I need to go fast! All of these toys I managed to put in my double car garage!!!!

You know what happens when two Model A's slip under the covers...
Next spring, when you uncover them, there are three. |

I'm really sorry to hear about your accident. I hope everyone will be O.K. I for one feel the use of these Texting Devices in a vehicle should be banned by law . Unfortunately there are way too many accidents being caused by the use of these devices and people are being killed and/or seriously injured as a result of their use. |

Re: OUTNUMBERED IN Model A's
I have a 28 Tudor, a 29 Deluxe Sport Coupe, a 29 Pickup truck Roadster and a 29 Cabriolet. I also have a 31 Chevrolet 4 door Deluxe Coach and a 1932 Chrysler. Which one do I enjoy the most ? the one I am driving at the time. They all have their merits. All my cars are original except for the fact that they all have alternators and halogen lights for night driving. They are also in excellent to like new condition ! I work hard at my businesses and they are my stress release and my way to relax !

Somebody hit the back of my car & everyone said it was totaled but i fixed it anyway. If it was a model A then it deserves fixing all the more.
