Default RM Auction over the weekend - $500,000 Model A

Here are the auction results listed by sales price (high to low). Should have kept my 1964 Ferrari - one sold for $14.3 million. First time I've seen a Model A Ford bring $577,500.

That's not even close to being a real Model A ;-)

It might not still look like a "real" Model A but it brought some "real" money!

That is an iconic hot rod that was a HOT ROD cover car twice. There have been a couple of A and '32 based hot rods that have cracked the half million dollar mark at auction recently.

Yeah, but it was still pretty cool. Looks like I need to start buying up all the '29 roadsters and fabricate new front ends for them like they did. I could find a way to live off 477,000 a year, if you figure they had roughly $100,000 in that car. (Today's money) I'm not real familiar with dick flint, but that's a pretty damn clean design for 1952 when every one else was still chopping tops, and doing the normal hot rod stuff. Seeing this car, kinda has me thinking of another project after the dlx phaeton is done....

That's really nice but what differentiates it from a $200,000 car?

Here is probably the most ever paid for a model A. 1.8 Million!

http://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/...37/lot.31.html

And it's not even in very good condition! It has dents and is missing the engine, drivetrain, chassis and body...

Being on the cover of HOT ROD twice and winning at Pebble Beach. Plus the design and craftsmanship is impeccable.

That's insane! Around here crushed cars sell for $200 a ton.

If I were to have that much money to spend on a car, I would put another 200k with it and buy this one.

WOW. I'm firmly in the restoration crowd, I think well done hot rods are cool provided a nice original isn't cut up and its tastefully done - AND Ford powered! I'm pretty picky though and prefer the A the way Henry made it. I detest 98% of the Small Block Chevy lazy rods, junk rods etc.. This car is CLEARLY not anywhere near your typical hot rod or even street rod. Its ART. I don't think that A roadster is embarrassed at all by its new look. WOW. Nicely done! Even Henry would be proud.

The only downside? I'd be afraid to drive that thing! I could never afford it though so I guess it doesn't matter.

Flop could restore that.

Just another old man provincial rant, with no real point except to put in your typical political bias. There are plenty of people with the funds and the respect for design and work that desire to own and preserve an automobile icon. That doesn't make them nuts, or crazy or even liberal Democrats.

NUTS? Putting the years of work and piles of dollars into over-restoring a Model A all for the sake of a few judging points that will never ever begin to return your investment. We're all crazy, we just have different priorities and the ability to pay for them. You ought to respect that.

And it's a good time to be thankful for what you have, not to denigrate others. Happy Thanksgiving.

My hat's off to Mr. Flint. "Flint had begun with three Model A Roadster bodies, salvaging the best parts of each one to assemble a sound example". At least he didn't take a good original "A" and cut it up. There must have been thousands available in the early 50's.

Well, if you'd been paying attention in 1959 you could have bought it from Flint for a few bucks less. Of course, it wasn't near the car Orosco turned it into.

It's not just that its a track nosed model A hot rod that allowed it to bring that price. It is the history. There is one of that car. Only one Dick Flint roadster that was a HotRod magazine cover car

I still find myself surprised by intelligent well thought responses like this to political posts. They are very uncommon on the Barn.
