Question Re: F 150

Nice speedo ...

How does the rest of the truck look?

And I agree on late trucks, expensive and a bad case of ugly.

Pretty decent overall, some rust at rear wheel to bumper area, interior still good also. Need to replace rear window seal in the spring. Cap comes off in the spring also..4.6 will move it down the road nicely.!

Thumbs up Re: F 150

If you like her, it will be much cheaper to have the rusted area re-done.

Nice looking pickup.

Had a '99 F-150 short-bed with the V6 engine/auto. Hated that short-bed and hated the color, metallic maroon. Traded it in at dealer for brand new 2007 F-150 long-bed white work truck. List price on it was over $21k back then. Hate to see how much the new ones are. My 2007 only has 53K miles on it now. At this rate, it will be another 30 years before I could get to 200K miles. I will be dead long before then.

Still looks like a nice rig. The 2 valve 4.6 will run a lot more miles than 200K. I maintain a fleet of cop cars, still have about 65 Crown Vics left in patrol, some are pushing 300K and never had a valve cover off and I guarantee they have had a much harder life than your pickup.
FWIW, my wife's work car is a 2000 Explorer, 5.0, with 269K on it, all original engine/drivetrain......Who says Fords won't last!

Actually, you are better off driving the p*ss out of them. I left my 2007 F150 parked for a few months without ever starting it back in the summer of 2017. When I went to start it the battery was dead and was later determined to be bad. It was the original battery, 10 years old. No complaints there.
After installing new $119.00 cheapo battery, I start engine and it is running terrible (misfiring).
I take it in to the shop and they ended up tearing the engine down to clean out the EGR ports (whatever that is), sorry, I am old-school and know zero about fuel injection.
Cost was over $1400.00. My chin dropped to the floor.
Engine ran like new again.
Ever since then, I have kept LUCAS fuel injector cleaner in the tank whenever I fill up with gas. So far, so good.
I rarely use the truck. Even if I need to haul something, I usually just take the '55 Courier wagon, especially if it is raining and I don't want the item I am hauling to get wet.

With shop rates over $100 per hour some places, it doesn't take long to get to $1.4K these days. Pulling the exhaust gas recovery valve & cleaning the crap out would take a good bit of time. Parts prices take care of the rest. Those EGR systems like to carbon up pretty bad. Sometimes a lot of other stuff has to come off to get at it. I prefer to work on the vehicles from simpler times. They don't have computers and generally a lot less clutter in the engine compartment.

Thanks for the comments, and some worthwhile suggestions to keep her going. Just can't justify a new truck.. some at 40k plus.!, and you almost cant' work on them yourself anymore. Maybe I'll get another turn on the odometer..LOL
