HI Everyone,
Its been a while since I joined last year. Some things have kept me away from the forums and from tinkering with my 1928 Sport Coupe for almost a whole year. But I am back now and thankful for it.

After taking a break from the frustration of adding turn signals, I decided to look at some of the "small items" relating to the floor. I got a little stumped when looking for the "shift lever plate."

My 1928 (the more I research, the more this puppy looks like a late 1928? not a 1929) has the e-brake next to the driver side door. The shift lever plates I see at all the vendors are made for the Model As with the emergency brake in the middle - either in front of or beside the shift.

If there was a "shift lever plate" made specifically for the A before they moved the e-brake they are extremely rare OR all the ones made for the earlier configuration were later modified by Henry for the new configs and this non of the earlier kind would be left over.

Anyway, my hunch is that if there are no authentic ones then I could use the later plates as a template - the plate that I need would simply not have the slot for the e-brake since it is nowhere near the shift.

My other hunch is that I don't know a good "Authentic dealer" that has an original shift lever plate for a 1928 with the e-brake next to the driver door.

So this sits just above the shift? I think I browsed past this when I was researching. The name through me off but makes sense. By Googling this part, I ran across a discussion about a "multi disk clutch" - I did not get good vibes! If I have a multi disk clutch it does not sound good.

If your hand brake lever is right next to the left hand cowl panel, the one shown is not your type.. Plus the car did come come from the factory with the multi disk clutch assy..

With the brake on the left by the door your car is a early 28

Nothing wrong with a multiplate, and I have the complete setup to install in my mid 28 Phaeton, just to keep it original.

RE; Plus the car did come come from the factory with the multi disk clutch assy.. If it is early 28 why do you suggest it did not come with multi disk clutch?

My Oct 28 Leatherback has a center pistol grip ebrake and multidisk clutch which works perectly. Your car must be an e28.

The e-brake is definitely on the left side next to the cowl panel. It goes down through the body and attaches to the outside of the metal frame which points to a 1928

However, after doing some searching of the forum threads, I don't believe it is a multi-clutch. A pic I found posted by Tome Wesenberg (originally posted by BobF) shows the inspection covers and mine looks like the one with vents on the right which is not a multi clutch. I attached pics. it does not appear that my pics were attached.

The Service Bulletins, page 248, show the plate in post #2 came out in May 1928.
It shows how to install the plate in earlier cars and trucks.

Ok, To settle what you do have, take the cover off, take a picture of the inside of clutch area and post it..

I thought that would be the next request so I am in the process of cleaning up the area so I don't get any gunk in there and setting up the lights for a clear bright shot.

Ok, After making your picture bigger it looks ok.. So its now looks as if it all was changed over, we will see.. For sure Not the original floor board..

Ok here are my pics. I cleaned the housing with some degreaser. it was pretty bad. Not sure if you can see inside very well though.

I had a couple paragraphs as a reply and then looked up a couple items. When I came back my password had timed out and when I entered the password, my reply was gone!!! Kind of frustrating when trying to enter meaningful replies. I guess I will have to enter them into Pages first and then transfer.

Anyway, to answer F.M. yes the left side e-brake works.

Now I need to find out the correct floor board pattern given the shift lever plate that Bob C. pointed out. I can't find one for a early 1928 from any vendor or any patterns on line via google. I am still going through books too so they might be in those. I can cut the floor boards in my woodshop
