Default Rear wheel bearing

Both rear wheel hubs on my 1930 have a lot of damage to the bearing surfaces. I see there is a repair for this that includes a new smaller bearing. Question is the replacement bearing appears to not have the spiral grooves. I know that in the "T" world non spiral groove bearings are to be avoided. Should I use these bearings in the A without concern.

First the grooves are not grooves, the bearing was made of a strip to metal wrapped around a form.
We use the kits all the time and have not gotten any bad reports. Of course a lot depends on the condition of the bearing surface on the axle housing, if it's bad that should be addressed as well.

Check the bottom of the axle at the bearing race..thats where the wear will show..

A better repair is to have new bearing race sleeves installed over the damaged hubs on the axle housings. Bratton's sell the repair sleeves for about $22 each. The labor to have a machine shop turn the hubs down and press on the new sleeves can be costly. Bratton's at one time offered this service (and may still) at a reasonable price, however, the shipping in two directions is costly. There is a Model A shop here in Southern California that can do the work. I have had a number of them done there.

Installing new sleeves will allow you to use the original wheel bearings. I refuse to use the solid element repo wheel bearings on my car as they are very rough on the hubs. There are plenty of original serviceable wheel bearings around.

Another option is to find some better rear axle housings.

That sleeve was originally used in 1936 hubs, along with the smaller roller bearing ---these parts can be sourced as NOS original Ford ---the later style bearings had solid rollers, and rolled on the same type of axle housing

Since your hubs are bad, have you taken a close look at the axle housing ends? Usually if one is bad, so is the other.
