Default Snyders 5.5 high compression head

I just bought a new Snyders 5.5 high compression head for a 28 aa. Motor is recently been rebuilt. Pulled the stock head to replace with the high compression one. When installing a high compression head is the torque the same or do I want to go higher? Also have the banana pop out cable on it. Does it need extra torque? What tricks do you recommend for installing the head? I have a 32 b head gasket for it
Thanks

Ask Snyders. They have a vested interest in making it work correctly. They also have a valid excuse to not stand behind their product if it wasn't installed according to their instructions.

Snyders recommends the composition head gasket. I have used many of them and it has the probability to fail . My preference is the BEST brand B head gasket for it. It use 55 lbs torque as a final torque in increments of 35,45,55.

I don't use a gasket on the water neck but surface it on my head resurfacer or belt sander and check for flat, use a good skim of RTV black and torque it like the others. Haven't ever had any issues doing that. If you use the Best brand composition gasket I use a coat of "copper coat on each side. The red silicone style is used as is.

Torque the head again shortly after 1st run and then a couple of times there after. I usually do 3 rounds and it should be good for a while.

Enjoy the head.. you will be glad you got it!

Ok I will give them a call. Engine overheated. And blew the head gasket. So I am trying to update it so I won't have trouble again

I think the torque of 55 mentioned here is too low. Snyders calls for 63lbs. and a B type headgasket.

Larry, those new head gaskets will work fine however I believe the issue is that most 'A/B' rebuilders do not have the proper equipment to be able to use them. It takes a Surfacer with a CBN (-or better yet, a PCD) cutter spinning at 1000+ RPM producing an RA finish in the mid-twenties. That allows the surface to be smooth enough where there is not any weeping.

Thumbs up Re: Snyders 5.5 high compression head

FYI, composition head gasket on Snyder's 5.5 torqued @ 55# still holding well after 22,000+ miles.

I have the 6:1 head but I did not know enough to make an intelligent decision as to the differences between the 5.5:1. Are there pros or cons for each head? Anything that would be good to know for someone trying to decide which on to get.
