Default LED Taillight Conversion

I got an LED conversion for my original (I assume) '31 LH tail light from Bratton's. The license plate lens/LED/PC board assembly hits the bulb socket. The PC board may have some extra meat to cut away with my dremel or the socket could be cut away, it won't need much.

Any suggestions?

I had to grind the license plate board/lens on mine and fit fine, you might have to also grind the lens frame a bit to make it fit perfect, I love them they work great

I would remove material from the circuit board as long as you don't cut any printed circuit or damage anythng electrical.

Vince bought LED's from Bratton's for his 31 Phaeton and I don't recall having to remove any material to install them.

Thanks, I'll probably use a file rather than the dremel for better control.

I bought my LED tail lights from Speedway and found that they fit perfectly in a repro housing and I had to massage the boards to fit an original housing. While I still have problems with the look of LED's, they make for a safer ride.

For a car that is to be driven, the LED tail light conversion is a great safety improvement. Jan bought a set for me at a MARC National -- I think in Madison -- several years ago. Then the plug in bases had popcicle sticks poking out of the potting cement to turn them into the bayonette socket. The instructions were to crumple newspaper behind them to hold them against the glass. About 10,000 miles later we still get compliments on our very visible tail lights.
The LED turn signals that fit between the bumper bars are also an excellent safety investment.

I found similar fit problems but they were easily resolved. Since the LEDs are directional, I found it best to slant the board slightly to get the brightest light when viewed, standing, three or four car lengths behind the lights.

If you are going to use them as turn signals, remember to order the special flasher relay for LED turn signals.

Not necessary if you have an incandescent somewhere else in the system. E.g., front turn light, turn signal indicator light, etc.
