Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
I wonder if lead shot from a shotgun shell would work, or maybe BB's (if they will fit) ? Seems like they'd be easy to get and easy to put in.

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
Leads pretty soft, I would think it would turn to dust pretty quickly.

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
You need something that flows easily while inside the tube and will not eventually deteriorate from friction against other particles and rubbing the inner tube. BB's- the copper plate rubs off then they rust. Lead shot- rubs away to dust and oxide against the tube. That's why most people use ceramic beads. I've been running 3/4 cup of 50/50 antifreeze in inner tubes for years. Liquids works just fine. Works for me.

As long as you do not have puncture or leak sounds great, but I imagine antifreeze creates a mess when it leaks, possibly hard on the wheels? |

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
I can't see why it would be. It certainly won't cause rust!

Instead of 50/50 what do you think about a cup of Prestone concentrate? Who else is using antifreeze? |

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
The easy way to install the beads is with an ice pick punch a hole in the tube then insert the beads and patch the hole. Of course you have to remove the tire and tube. Another way is to install metal stems like Henry did. When you cut off the stem insert the beads. They are worth the effort. Keep in mine the weights only balance the tire and rim. The beads balance the tire, wheel, lug nuts, brake drum etc. In other words the beads balance the entire rotating assembly. Just my thoughts and experience. Arlyn Bieber, San Diego

They also compensate for all those tiny rocks that seem to work their way into the treads of your tire.

Old 31,
When the dyna beads bunch up, lightly tap the valve stem with a light spanner or similar. The slight vibration will help them drop into the tube.

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
Took alot of patiance, but I got them in. Pour very slow, like a single file row of beads and lightly tape the valve stem continously. Time well spent!!! Tim

Re: Wheel Balance with Dyna Beads
I feel like I am missing something here.
I have never had to balance a tire on any of the Model A’s that we have owned. I do stay under 50 mph. Is this a known problem or does balancing just make a good driving car that much better? |
