Tim,

Nice Michelin rims

My scanner is not working, so here are some photos of photos of the Michelin rims on a Model A in Denmark (where I originally got the rims):

....and here below is a photo of a Model A with disk wheel covers/hubcaps (original spoke rims underneath).....in the style of Rolls Royce of the 20's and 30's. Note what looks like the original Ford hubcaps in the center of the disk covers:

Thumbs up Re: Accessory disc wheels for the Model A ?

If the folks who bought the Michelin disc wheels from me last year at Hershey still need the set of the Michelin hub caps for them, I will have a set at Hershey this year (including the unique flat one for the spare tire with Bibendum on it)

If interested, stop by early CF-73 and CF-74. We'll be there starting on Tuesday evening.

Fordially,
Brad in Maryland, (soon Hershey bound)

Brad,

One of the guys in my group bought the wheels. I will let him know and we'll be arriving Tuesday evening.

Pretty sure they were one off cast alloy wheels made from a high performance model A in Finland.

I think Lucas gets an undeserved bashing in the states mainly because they don't understand the colour code system. Just by looking at a wire in a car using their system, you know whether it is power all of the time, power fused, power only when the ignition is on etc etc. From my experience, this is a concept American car manufacturers still haven't grasped. They all march to their own tune with no standard across the industry. The same manufacturer often has a different system on different models. VERY CONFUSING.
Having said that, electronics and on board computers have added a new dimension to the complexity of wiring in modern cars that would be beyond the Lucas system but it served well for decades.
But that is all side tracking from the original post. While I like the look of wooden or even disc wheels on vintage cars, they are difficult to change tyres on. I'd prefer the way Henry did it.

Hi Sarnblad,

The rims on the "Model A" that you posted are hand made, one-off, cast and machined aluminum rims that were made by Mäkelä Auto-Tuning Oy(Ltd) in Finland (http://www.mat.fi) for their 250hp "Model A" project....or otherwise known as "The Fastest Model A". The wood look on the spokes are just painted wood graining over the aluminum.

Here are some photos from their web site of those rims:

Hope that answers your question.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I heard that the custom of drinking WARM beer was because Lucas made their refrigerators!! Bill W.
Bill, I respect your knowledge of all things "A" but must correct you on the above:

Semis are known as 'ARTICULATED LORRIES" not "Articulating Lorrie". The singular of lorries is lorry not lorrie.
No British beer is drunk warm, heavy beers are drunk at cellar temperature and light beers such as lagers are drunk cold. (I worked as a barman in my aunt's pub back in the sixties.)

Notwithstanding the above, keep it coming. Love your off the cuff commentary.

I'm running 16" spun aluminum disk over my '35 wire wheels. People not knowledgable often times confuse these with solid disc wheels. Final installation has the discs powder coated flat black to match the body.

My dad had a '29 Chev sedan with the stock disc wheels. I never liked the look of them and remember him cussing as he struggled to change out flat tires on those rims.

MOON Hubcaps on solid wheels and a Candy Apple Red lacquer paint job, before I knew any better in the early 1960's. Had a lot of fun with that car but had to sell it ($400.) when I got my draft notice.

Going down a steep grade in NJ on Rt.46 with a carload of friends when one of them yelled "look, some car lost it's wheel" as we watched my right front tire and wheel pass the car in front of us as we tilted and scraped to a stop.

Ran those solid wheels without spacers and later on found out about the need for them.

The '31 Fordor I had as a teenager came with solid wheels -- no spacers. I didn't like the way they looked and found someone that would trade me a set of 19's and ran it that way till I sold it.

Wow, those hand made allu rims in 48# are beautiful. I would love a set of those on my A as well as my 29 Chevy.
I fact, they are soooo nice I would even consider a set on my SL, E Type and 911

In 1919 my mother's family traveled from Denver, CO to Bakersfield, CA VIA Yellowstone Park. I have read the journal that was kept on that trip. Whenever my Grandfather crossed a creek or river in his Model T he would stop midstream and let the wood spokes soak up water so they wouldn't rattle. :-)
