Default 97 jet plugs

Leaking jet plugs on a 97. Suggestions for cure. They weren't leaking before we took the plugs out to check the jets. I think the reason was there was some form of liquid sealant used around the gasket area. The sealant had hardened and was flaking off so we removed it so pieces wouldn't migrate into the jets.
The plugs had what looked like the regular red gaskets on them. How and where do the plugs leak ? Thank you Fordbarners.

The die casting of the main body of the 97 is not flat where the gaskets seat. It usually takes a bit of force from a large screwdriver to tighten these plugs. If they still leak try some of the plastic gaskets, it that fails Uncle Max or Charlie can face the die cast seat.

When ever I had the same problem, just using the original fiber type gaskets and non hardening Permatex sealant along with proper tightening fixed the problem.

This is where Stromberg's got their reputation as leakers.
The area of the gasket surface should be spotfaced, along with the use of modern nitrile/cellulose or nylon gaskets.

Thank you all. As a former machinist I will see if I can spotface the gasket surface, and get the modern nitrile/cellulose or nylon gaskets. Charlie did a couple of 97s for me, not this one, and I see he used some type of what looks like a nylon gasket. Thank you Fordbarners.

I do like nylon gaskets which I turn, die cast nylon gaskets lack resilience. I know MAX has his own design spot facers and just the technique to get the faces flat and SQUARE with the threads.
