I was pulled over for blue dots. The officer said that I should remove them.I told him that one of his fellow officers is in our car club and if *****removes his,I'll remove mine. They're still on my car and I like them.

I've run Blue Dots in many of my Flathead Fords for the last 50 + years in NY & FL and I've yet to be stopped by law enforcement because of them. they were never standard equipment or factory optional on Fords however, as mentioned in an earlier post, they were available as OEM on some high end luxury cars.

I agree with you on the yellow signals. Here in New Zealand they are the norm on cars. I'm in the process of converting my car to turn signals. No one would take much notice of them in the little red tail lights so I've obtained a couple of accessory back up lights and converted those to turn signals using amber VW 6v bulbs. For added light dispersal I'be cut up a clear orange kitchen cleaner bottle and placed that behind the bulb, you can barely see it through the glass when not operating.

As for blue dots my car came with them...not a great fan. I will replace them when I can locate a pair of original "duolamp/duolite"? ones.

OEM? Fake news.
When I first saw them on a couple different Packards years ago, I assumed the owners had installed them.
After speaking with the owners, they informed me that they were indeed OEM installed at the factory.
Further research pretty much confirmed that.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. They are saying it's OK for an old car/classic to get rear ended and possible hurt, but not a newer car.

Merc Cruzer,

You have a beautiful convertible. I looks like the one in the of movie "The Long Long Trailer" with Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. If you ever noticed in the movie, for the real towing scenes up hill, they substituted a Lincoln Capri convertible of the same color for the Mercury.

I had read some where that Duesenbergs had blue dots as stock. Of course everyone thought that adding blue dots to their car made them appear to be a Duesey. They used to be illegal in New Jersey, but without safty inspections any more, who knows what is legal ?

The color blue is illegal in most states and reserved for emergency vehicles only.

I have been running blue dots since the mid-1990's with no issues. I actually went over and spoke with the local police chief and sheriff before I ran them. They had no issues with them. There is no realistic way the blue dots would be mistaken for an emergency vehicle and the red part of the tail lights are plenty bright. I have driven the vehicle in at least two of the states where the posters have said they are not legal and had no issues there, either. Maybe the fact I have out of state tags helps.

Never was a fan of blue dots. Kind of put them in the fuzzy dice category. Some people just have to have them. Just don't see what the big deal is. My red tail lights get the message across.

I guess I'm in the '50-60's blue dot and fuzzy dice, fox tail category. Except the tail hanging from my mirror is a tiger tail. These were handed out by Esso gas stations in New Jersey in the '80's when you got a fill-up. The advertising slogan was "Put a tiger in your tank."

Vehicle law enforcement attention towards vintage cars seems to be light where ever I go up here in northern NY. In roadway stop/inspection road blocks they seem to ignore vintage cars. I have historic plates on several cars and when out and around the New England states they don't look the least interested. I get the impression that for the most part, they appreciate that we as a group pay close attention to the condition of our vehicles. ( I better knock on wood)

Just my opinion, but if you're not a target for some other enforcement issue, it's doubtful you'd be stopped only for blue dots. The same for fuzzy dice. Those are infractions that aren't worthy of an officer's time to deal with. One infraction that may soon be escalated to higher on the list is missing front license plates, due to the proliferation of license plate readers on toll roads and such. I've been driving cars without front plates for 60 years, never been stopped or cited for it, but going forward? Not so sure anymore.
