Hi CarlG:

Where did you get these? Did you put it together yourself? Thanks for sharing.

You can't get those round head cotter pins today, so if you have an old jar of themlaying around I bet a fine point car restorer would pay good money for them.

The diamond shaped head is part of the "hammer lock" of modern pins. As you say, one of the things judges look for in "Fine point" as the hammer locks were not available until the mid-30s.

I researched the cotter pins on line and bought them in bulk, the boxes came from WalMart.

The Judging Standards state the cotter pins were "Unfinished"

I have worked on a lot of Model A's and early V-8's thru the years. All of what I believed to be original cotter keys were unfinished.

Therefore, it is my opinion the cotter pins from the factory had no finish. They were "unfinished"

I think that if your car is so perfect that you are worried about the finish of the cotter pins and the shape of their heads you're in pretty good shape!!

Well for me, my car is not perfect nor am I worried about the finish of the cotter pins. I was asking a question so I could answer a question posed to me. And in the process I learned something. Which is always a good thing...for me.

Your Question is no worse than the one a few years ago that asked which way they were bent, that started a big WAR and it led to many people being Banned from this site or they just stopped posting all together.

If a person is restoring a car to Fine Point Standards, the finish on the cotter pins is something he may be interested in.

A Fine Point Restoration is not for everyone but some folks want to try to restore a Model A as closely to how it was when it left the factory as they can.

Others want to restore a car and do some upgrades and use the Model A for touring which is also a good thing.

And there are those who just want to try and keep their Model A running so they can drive it around town and participate in local events which is also OK.

I guess what I am trying to say, this hobby has something for everyone which is what makes the Model A such a great hobby car.

Again, this is JUST MY OPINION,
