28' Roadster pickup tailgate
I have a 28 Roadster pick-up and while the brackets look right on the tailgate, the hook from the chain cannot keep the tailgate locked into position. Is something mounted incorrectly or am I missing a piece?
Any thoughts / help would be appreciated. Bob |

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
Instead of hooking it over the top, come up from the bottom, and then hook over. That will keep them in place going down the road.

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
The problem is that the holes on the tailgate and the holes on the body do not line up to get the hook through, even though both hook points appear to be mounted where they belong, but maybe not
Thanks |

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
It looks right, but as 31 says the hook needs to come up through the bottom. Also, the union you are using for the link is really too big.The hook does not go through both of those holes. You have it hooked right, but just with one wrong part.

The hook doesn't go through both holes.

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
Here is my 31wide bed ccpu. Hook from under, otherwise the hook likes to jump out.

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
I am attaching a good picture of how the tailgate is fastened to the box. Note the steel loop that goes over the tailgate bracket. It appears you have some kind of aftermarket bracket instead of the original steel loop bracket Ford used.

Re: 28' Roadster pickup tailgate
Here's a photo of an original tailgate chain assembly with the large link.
You're tailgate has a hardware store chain repair link in place of the welded original link. |

Many Thanks - Pictures are worth 1,000 words and hours of trying to figure out why it isn't doing what I thought it was supposed to do
