V-O-M is the common name for a volt-ohm meter. We get questions about which meter to buy for common use. An inexpensive needle type is a good item for your "road kit". Some are less than $10. A digital meter is essential for shops, but usually not for hobbyists. You can check voltages and whether a circuit is intact easily by watching the needle swing. At our shop we use some very expensive meters because the voltage and currents in modern cars require extreme accuracy, but often haul out the old analog meter for older vehicles. Become familiar with yor meter before you need it out on the road.
