Perpetual sandblasting-or-Rust never sleeps
Just because I see the humor in it all.
I should be aggressively moving forward on the full restoration of my 1951 barn find Mercury Sport Sedan. Yeah I know it looks great in the pictures but don't believe everything you see. Anything looks great if you take the shot from the right angle. Over 30 years of rats and bats and there is as much rust as metal. So I sandblast. But then there are the interruptions. My 1933 is being a bit temperamental right now and is demanding attention. My 1915 is down getting the front wheels redone---i.e.--more sandblasting. I've got to prep the parts for the wheelwright. To the casual observer these two cars look like they came out of a museum. Of course this group sees deeper and knows they are just cars. In my trailer, is a pile of 1923 model "T" RUST.---hmm --I need to sandblast The moral of the story is that, after doing the math, if I sandblast 2.5 hours every day for the rest of my life, I will actually die behind on the sandblasting that I need to do. Why? Because rust never sleeps. And then I figured it out. I am trying to prepare all the metal in my life with a Number 2 pencil eraser. That's about the size of the sandblast tip. I am sure glad I actually love this stuff. |

I look at it this way. Next to my shop I have created my own virtual beach.

I've certainly turned a lot of glass bead to talcum powder over the years. I'm hoping the future is brighter if they ever get the price of these laser rust blasters down to an affordable level. It can't be soon enough for me.

Re: Perpetual sandblasting-or-Rust never sleeps
We had a great Redi-Strip facility in Columbus Ohio 30 years ago. I had an entire frame and cab from a '53 pickup done as well as a couple flathead blocks. No other better way to clean an engine block inside and out. The process was the electrical like a chrome plating reversal,no chemicals or acid to eat at metal. I don't know why a lot of these franchises went away,I was told once it was because of the EPA and disposal of the paint and rust removed. The last couple items I took up there they ruined ,switched process to acid removal not reverse electrolis and ate up two '39 Ford convertible coupe doors.

R and R will never die. We gotta put a stop to this before we sing the whole song. I have never had a sandblaster through 25 or 30 old ford trucks. I just keep buying the knotted cup brushes and pull the bristles out of my sweatshirts and forearms.....
