Default 33-34 Hood side panel bump rubbers.

These rubbers on the front lower corner of the hood side panels on 33 and 34 fords are riveted on with a single rivet, but which side of the hood do they go on ? I have seen them on both the inside and outside of the panel. Which is correct? Thanks, Kevin.

What good would they do on the outside?

Hey deuce, are you asking me a question or giving me an answer ? Those rubbers have a large moulded edge so would work either way to some degree depending on weather your priority is stopping the hood rattling on the inside or giving more protection against banging the hood on the headlight shell if mounted outside. The hole for the rivet head in the rubber is stepped/recessed which would indicate that it would fit better on the outside of the panel otherwise the rivet would be around the wrong way. I just want to know what is original and correct, not just an opinion. Thanks, Kevin.

See EFV8 1934 Restoration Book. Chapter 7 page 24. Shows a 1933 Standard with the corner protector for hood mounted on the outside.
Guess the book can be relied upon as beinng correct.

Thanks Phil, A real close look at that photo with a magnifying glass reveals that there is NO RUBBER fitted on there. You can see the rivet hole in the panel.

Only the lip shows on the outside. The major portion of the rubber is on the inside of the hood panel.

Thanks David. Have since combed through many of my books and photos and found a couple that show the rubber on the inside of the panel. I have four repro sets of these rubbers including Drake which has the metal moulded inside. All seem to be a bit too small and don't fit very well. Thanks all for your help. Regards, Kevin.
