I switched over from Milton "M" to the high flow "V" style in my garage. All told, I guess I bought about 50 miscellaneous couplers and plugs. I love them, some people hate them. The bore has a whopping 103% greater surface area than the M, and in the same size 1/4" plug.

The general use 1/4" T style coupler is rated at 40 SCFM. The 1/4" V style is rated 74 SCFM and it is backward compatible. You can put an "M" style plug in the V couplers (but with the lower flow rate) so you don't have to change over everything. My high demand tools like 1/2 and 3/4 impacts, washdown siphon sprayer, and air grinder and drills now run like the're on steroids! Of course, 3/8 hose is a must for the high flow rate.

If I take air tools on the road to work in somebody else's shop or loan one out I have a 3' adapter hose I made up with a V coupler and an M plug.

The high flow 1/4" V style couplers and plugs are available from both Central Pneumatic and from Milton. I have all Milton, and nothing leaks or hisses. No comment on the CP stuff.

I use Lincoln type. The male connector has a long nipple. Not sure about other brands but Lincoln couplers can be taken apart and change the rubber washer that seals around the nipple. I have been using mine for over 40 years. Much prefer them to the couplers with the short nipples.

I believe the brass Milton couplers are rebuildable when they leak. I think Milton sold o-rings which get replaced when renewing them.
