Help with possible 427 Carb ID
I am going through my stuff to clear out what I am never going to use and generate cash to build my A.
I have this carb with a tag C5AF BD. It is a 4 bbl Holley and it has the correct stamp on the one side (all in the pictures). A quick look up shows it is a 427 carb what some further look at ebay I see it gets some decent money (up to $300). Now what I am not sure of is this carb in particular. See the tag has Motorcraft on it not Ford or FoMoCo like I would expect for a 60's vintage unit. So is this a later replacement carb? What kind of value would it have in that case? Thanks! |

Re: Help with possible 427 Carb ID
First off its a primary carb for a 2x4 set up. Then there is the date code... 373, would be July 1963 third week. But that don't make sense since it has a C5AF. Couldn't be made in 63 and be a 65 carb. In 1970 they went to a 4 digit date code, so it would be 1963. The tag also shows a July 13th of 1963 as well. Not sure why it has Motorcraft on it.

As far as value, it drops (to me) a little with a service carb, plus yours has a little damage and fairly rough. If I were to buy it, I wouldn't give more than $75 as is. Maybe $400 with a good restoration. Just my opinion from doing carbs all of my life. I'm sure a lot of people on EBAY would list it for $1000 or more. Maybe for one with a '65 date code. Sal |
