Pexto shear update
About 9 months ago I posted on both here & the hamb looking for information regarding a Pexto shear that I acquired & was intending to restore. I have finished it & thought that I would post some pics of it. The main body of it I painted, but all the rest of the pieces I had powder coated. All the cross shafts, attaching hardware,& table top I cold blued. I tried to get the color as close to a color used on these in 1941 when this was made. I put it on casters as it weighs around 1200#'s & is a challenge to move. It works like new & shears 16ga steel (its max capacity) like butter. I am kinda proud of it & one guy I know says that I really "pimped it out". I included a pic of what I started with. Thanks for looking. Bill

Nice work on a nice piece. That open end sure will be handy.

Re: Pexto shear update
Outlaw: Glad to see great pieces of equipment properly restored and used as intended. Too many would have scrapped it. By the way, have a friend with whom I've lost contact who lives(d) in Eagle River - Chester R. Milton, wife's name Kitty, owned a real estate business......any chance you know them ??

Re: Pexto shear update
Outlaw, you have pushed my envy button for sure. Some 20 years ago, I tried like the dickens to buy a KRW 5 ton press from my employer who was shutting down. It was included in the sale of company machinery, and I never had a chance.

Re: Pexto shear update
Thank you for the responses. Makes a person feel good to have something go right. I have had a bunch of friends & co-workers + my wife think I'm nuts, but you know where they'll go when they need to whack up some sheet metal. I love old equipment. I kinda wonder where it's been & what it's done. Old things seem to have more substance & personality than most plastic & pot metal newer things. Marcus, I will ask around about your friend. So far he's not in the phone book, but a lot of people up here have unlisted numbers & more & more have gotten rid of their land lines & only have cell phones, so it's getting harder to locate people anymore. Re: Pexto shear update
Used a similar one for many years at my former place of employment.
As I recall the foot pedal platform was parallel with the floor. Is one side on yours in fact higher than the other? Or is it just the way the picture was taken?

Re: Pexto shear update
Bill - Received your PM - and THANK YOU! Betting that your information is perfect!! I am indebted, my friend - and ready to return the favor as requested/required! Come on down to Sunny Mississippi and I'll throw you into the swimming pool, and treat you to the best BBQ in the USofA (I'll start something with that statement!). Maybe even let you drive Abigail Marie - '31 Slantwindow in the avatar.

Re: Pexto shear update
The treadle is parallel with the floor. When I got it the right side linkage bar was badly bent down probably from someone trying to shear too heavy a gauge metal. It cuts from the right side so that's common to "jump" repeatedly on that side to make it cut. I straightened it in the 100 ton press we have at work & reinforced it. Bill

Re: Pexto shear update
Timbo, It was a lot of work as this had sat outside in the snow & rain for 25+ years before I got ahold of it. It was on it's way to the dump when I found out about it. Bill Very tangled, It would be a little hard to get your fingers in there, but I'm sure that someone has done it! Bill
