Default Question about book copyrights...

I have a book for which I would like to copy a photo from and use elsewhere.

The book is titled "Ford Model A Truck Owner" by A. G. McMillan and was Copyrighted in 1975 by Dan R. Post.

I realize that I must contact these people but have no idea where to start.

Have looked on the internet to contact Post-Era books in Arcadia, CA but nothing as far as contact info.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Contact a Patent or Copyright Attorney for advice. I would guess any priority is long gone.

Steve,

Most universities have an office that handles copyrights for their faculty. If you live near a large university you may be able to get some guidance from someone on the staff or even the University Librarian.

Unless the book is a big seller, you may be able to use the photograph by properly attributing the author, the photographer, the publication and the publisher.

Good luck,

Pluck,
I did a search for A.G.Mcmillan, and the only thing attributed to him was the truck book. I found several listings for the book, as well as several ISBN numbers, ie ISBN 10: 0911160264 The latest publish date was 1997, by Post Era Books, but could find no listing for them. I'm not an attorney, but if it was me, I'd use the picture and give credit to the source.

Look up "fair use", you should have no problem if you use it and give notice of where you found the info.

slammin beat me by one minute.

While Post Publications when out of business many of the books they published are still published by a different company. As an example the blue hard cover book "Model A Ford for the Restorer" by Victor W. Page has been republished by several companies including Post for many years. Some years ago Lincoln Publishing Co. Inc. of Lockport, NY has been publishing this book. Many of the other books that Post published are still published and available from the dealers. Go to Lincoln's web page and you will find the truck book on page 5 of the Model A books catalog for $22. The picture is from Lincoln's web site, I think this is the book you are looking for. Start with them.

In the past what I have been told by several sources is pretty much what post #3 wrote.

Pluck,
Most of that book is a copy of what is in the Ford Truck Fax binder. So, it likely can't be copyrighted anyway.

Tell me what page you are looking for and I will scan it from the Fax binder for you. It will be a slightly better image quality to boot.
