I just purchased this 48 for coupe -where is the vin plate located??

Main serial number is on the transmission case at top of the bellhousing area...there is a covered slot with a bend-up piece near top center of the toeboard where you might be able to see it with a flashlight.
That number was the primary # in the Ford system, and was also copied to the top of the left front frame rail at assembly. If car is a V-8 it would look like *899A-2,XXX,XXX*...full prefix might not be on the frame.

Good looking car. As a note, if the transmission has been changed out, the numbers on it will not match the numbers stamped on the frame rail. The numbers on the frame are the ones that count.

If you have the original patent plate on the firewall, that will tell you where it was produced. There will be letters stamped into the aluminum. Mine has LB for Long Beach, CA
