Heater Switch Knob ID

Anyone know what year this knob is? Came out of a ford dealer that closed in about 54, it is the exact switch and knob shown to fit 40 only in a 48 parts book, but never seen another knob like it.

It is definitely not a 40....The 40 does not have a letter S on the knob...

its been an interesting journey trying to ID this thing. The switch itself is 40, with thread on wire connectors. The book lists it for 40, and shows another for switch for 41. The really interesting part, is that it IS the knob in the picture, right down to the 4 ribs on the underside of the head of the knob.

The parts book shown lists 2 switches. 01A 15122-A Switch -hot air heater heater blower, 85 &95 HP, Pass. & Com, 1939-40. Also listed 01A 15122-B, hot water heater blower, 85&95HP 1939-40.
Could it be that one switch was used on vehicles with the hot air heater system and the other was used on vehicles with the hot water heater system? The first photo link shows the hot water system that worked off the radiator. The 2nd link shows hot air system that worked off the exhaust manifold..

Maybe a stupid comment, but is it foreign? What is h"heat" in french?

This book specifically says "hot water heater switch",

What is the difference between the A and B switch? Seems to be a normal B switch, but the colour, shape and S make no sense. It even has the red line, so it is set up to be installed vertically, and since it has the screw on the wire connectors, it must be a per 42 knob. The book lists the 41 switch next too it, with the normal looking 41 knob on it.

Never thought of it being french, it is canadian, but heat is "chaffer"

The thing that is most puzzling, is that it IS the knob shown in the parts book!!!

My '47 stock three-door heater has a switch that looks just like that switch EXCEPT it has a red-colored "H" in the center of the knob. Otherwise, exactly the same re red circles and markings.

Maybe the S stands for switch or Studebaker.

shape wise, it is similar to a 41, but the colour, and some features are different. "Switch" could be a possibility, tho its in a verticle mount, so once in, the S would never be seen, and still, what year is it, other than pre 48, and why is it listed as a 40, when its not the typical 40 knob?

only other truck type words I can think of are Snowplow or Salt/Sand. Maybe it is aftermarket for commercial snowplow.

Not for sure but it could be for Lincolns of that era. Im thinking the switch mounted in the horizonal position along beside the defrost and heat cables and the large S let the driver know with a glance which knob controled the fan.

Want to clarify and amend my earlier message .... my '47 heater switch knob, together with a similar-looking Defroster choke-cable pull knob marked "Def", are mounted in a small vintage metal add-on panel attached to the underside of the dash edge. As first noted, except for the black-colored "S" on Beecher's switch knob, the other markings on his and my knob are red-colored .... my knob having a red "H" in the center.

However, the basic color of my knob is the standard '47 gray-tan .... not Beecher's dark-brown color. As I see in various parts catalogs, the basic colors of Ford dash knobs varied over the years, and that may help identify/confirm the year of Beecher's heater knob. Dan

The knob has the words "in" and "out" written on it in English.

Check various Ford knob colors in some parts catalogs. Your heater switch looks "reddish-brown". If so, it would be for a '40 Deluxe. Dan

Definitely not 40 Ford. The correct 40 Ford heater knob is nothing like the one pictured.

The 39 Heater switch is like your 40 except a lighter ivory color. The other pictures are 46, 47, and 48 as far as i know.

The one I have is definatley like the second one. Not sure what box it ended up in when I sorted things last year. I have the mounting bracket also. Rod
