Default 26 / 27 Starter Question

Can anyone tell me if the Canadian cars used a different starter battery contact? My car does not have a foot start switch but has this lever actuated contact instead. I am just beggining to restore this car and have no idea what parts are missing to actuate this. This is a 1927 Canadian Roadster Pickup and the Starter is marked as Canadian inside the nose.

Thanks

Hey just as a point of reference- I had a '22 Canadian Touring and it not only had the normal "heel" footstart button, but the floorpan had holes on both sides for either left or right hand drive position. So, maybe the flexibility was built into the foreign market. I did read an article years ago that Henry tried out new innovations on the Canadian market before the US market saw them. For example- I had a July 1922 Touring but it had the '23 one-man top. That feature hit Canada first for some odd reason.

Cheers,
Jim from IL

I have messed with a lot of Canadian T starters & have never seen this switch used. It would, on the other hand, fit correctly on my 27 Essex boat-tail. I think maybe someone other than Ford had a better idea (in their back yard).

Thank you for the info. Mine does not have the left and right positions but I do question whether every part is Canadian. I'm confused by this starter though.

Could be. Whoever did this did a nice job of mounting it onto the stater. I havent found anything thing else online like it.

That lever activator looks a lot like 1932 Ford Model B ( 4 cylinder) item, ask to see one on the V8 section. Bob

Your right Bob, it is similar. They call them kick starter switches. Now I wonder if I should and how I varify that this is a T Starter.

That is definitely a Model T starter with a 1932-1934 Ford Model B starter switch adapted.

Thumbs up Re: 26 / 27 Starter Question

Thanks Ron. I am rounding up the parts to rebuild this starter and will be leaving this switch off. Whoever did this sawed off the battery cable post to make it work so I will be replacing it as well. Thanks everyone for your assistance with this as I wasnt familiar with the model B Starters.
