Default O/T Seen one of these?

Hi boys, I usually post on the Early V8 side but read this constantly to learn more on Fords. Stumbled onto this and thought I would save it from the scrap heap. Guessing at its apparent age I thought the Model A crowd might have seen this. As you can see, it stands 7" tall and has a 1/2" drive. There was no crank to be found but still makes good workbench art. Could this be automotive related?

It has the remnants and smell of old grease on it. I thought it was too short for a car jack, but who knows. Maybe used in a machine shop? Way too interesting to let go to the junk pile. The gear drive made it for me. Maybe someone will have seen one in the past.
