Default VJ Day Honolulu, Hawaii

August 14th 1945. This was a great day for all Americans. The war was over and these guys had good reason to celebrate and I do not want to diminish that for a minute. This is a wonderful old film.

But, being an old car nut I started looking at the old Fords and other makes, all in color. I swear I can hear a flathead V-8 Ford engine revving up just after the video starts.

Thanks for sharing this. Like those woodies.

What an exciting day! My sincere thanks to all who served,
and made those sacrifices for our freedom.

An awesome celebration for a great victory. Thanks to all who served in WWII, and to those who did not make it home for their ultimate sacrifice. Thanks also for all of those who served on the home front and manufactured so much military armament and equipment in such a brief period. I am afraid THAT America is a thing of the past. Sad.

This film clip appeared on fordbarn before. We had noted that the blue 1934 Phaeton was the only car with whitewalls.

I cant argue that the country is not the same as it was. The "me" generation saw to that.

I cant argue that self sacrifice, and helping your community seems to be old fashion these days. (vol firefighting, service organizations etc)

At times I think of the men we left at Normandy, for example, and wonder if them paying the ultimate price for us is even noticed these days.

I see in the eyes of our current military the people that "get it" and that makes me feel good. (always thank a vet when I see one--young or old)

I think there are still enough of "us" in this country, and we can at least get things back to where they should be, we just have to stand up and clear our collective voice. The bumper sticker logic crowd may be loud, and try to shout down the facts, but if you have facts and honest conviction they are easily defeated.

I will do what I can, I owe it to those who didn't come back.

SHADETREE ..............
I LOVE this video !
I've wondered, did the old cars get junked, in Hawaii, the same as in the original 48 states ? Or, were they more likely to be preserved, due to the distance from the factories ? Some of these old cars, might be restored, and still be in Hawaii !
I like that lady, near the end, pointing towards HOME !

I would think the old cars would be harder to keep up as availability of parts and services are limited. Remember even with that one little state it is hard to get from island to island.

Mike,
I wondered that too. I sure would like to have the blue `40 Ford Convertible just as it was in the video!
