Default Generator charging check

What should my 6 volt battery on my 55 ford say for voltage when measured with my multimeter at the battery to check if my generator is charging properly ????

With the engine off the battery voltage will be in the neighborhood of 6 to 6.5 volts. With the engine running at fast idle the charging voltage on the battery terminals would be about 7.5 to maybe 8 volts. Over 8 volts I'm not sure how much is too much.
