Default Detroit Lube carbs

Just an update ,I have mailed out the promised DL info I found in a DYKES
vintage repair manual. I do have 2 extra copies if anyone is interested.

Anyway I managed to get two good running carbs out of the three I

started with. I did find that fuel level is pretty critical and had zero luck
attempting to achieve the correct level by bending the float arm, what
did work quite smartly was adding or subtracting gaskets between the

needle seat and the bowl, expect to spend a couple beers getting it done.
Anything over .005 clearance between the barrel and the bore it fits in
is on the edge of poor performance. There is a sort of obscure note in the data to set the throttle blade with a .020 feeler between the throttle bore

and edge of the blade.....gotta have that or you invite a stall. The
Carburetor Shop in Eldon Missouri makes a very expensive kit for this

carb............very expensive. The kit does include a superior design needle
and seat.....it controls the fuel level accurately and is easier to dial
in.

Charlie,

I received what you sent yesterday; thank you. I read it today and it seemed to ring a bell. It was lifted word-for-word, complete with illustrations, from the June, 1932 Ford Service Bulletin. There are further articles in the July and September-October, issues of the Service Bulletin as well, plus one in the 1933 Service Bulletins (no sure which month in that instance as I do not have a copy of them with me). As I recall the 1933 article discusses the differences between the '32 and '33 versions of the carburetor plus the differences in metering pins for vehicle operation in elevated environments.

I can scan the July and September-October, 1932 articles and e-mail them to you if you wish.

My 33 Roadster has the original engine, with DT carb. I can only drive it with the choke pulled all the way out. Push it in, it dies. Leave it out, I can drive it all over the place. I saw the rebuild kits are 195. And then need someone who knows what they are doing.

A restorer friend of mine says to put a Ford Six carb on it, apparently it bolts right up, runs better. Not familiar with those.

Digger,
The kit I mentioned earlier has gaskets which are good but the real gem is the
much improved needle and seat. The Ford design will work just not as slick as that in

the kit. Third Gen does have gaskets FYI.

The Carburetor Shop, Eldon Missouri ,their kit CS 300. $200. I do not know
