Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
The cable clamp on mine is on the top mounting bolt of the solenoid.

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
Well, it looks like I have (or can make) everything I need except except the way the cable attaches to the overdrive lockout lever on the transmission. Emmit, if you are still with your car, could you get a picture of that? The sleeve shown looks like a part of it, but I don't have any idea what goes through the lever itself.
Any help will be appreciated. |

Mine is a bolt with a cross drilled hole.

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
Here is what i could get a photo of. As Greg said, looks like the cable is attached near the top of the solenoid at left in the photo, and the central wire can be seen attached to the lock out level toward the right. Sorry, hard to get a photo above the solenoid when it is in the car

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
Tubman are you installing a 51 trans? 49 and 50 use the narrow mount and is about 1-1/2" back towards the tail. I have a 51 trans in mine and had to weld to the 51 mount to use it in the 50.

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
I would take measurements from the center of the tunnel to the center of the output shaft and output shaft to the frame just to be safe. Once I figured out I had a 51 od trans and needed to make a mount I had to put my stock trans back in to get the measurements.

Re: Overdrive lockout cable on a '51 Ford
I have two '51 transmissions and one '50 transmission, so I am well aware of the differences. It's pretty obvious when you can see them side by side.

Good deal, I just didn’t want you to have to go through what I did, I thought I could simply turn the mount around and it would fit, I was wrong. I had to put the stock 3 speed back in to get the ride height to make the mount for the 51 trans with a 50 cross member.
