Steeling out a 32 Phaeton
Hi guys I have just started work steeling out my Australian Phaeton. A previous post turned up some helpful photos from members on here and we were able to establish that the Phaeton used the same sub frame as Roadsters as far as the back of the front seat. I have started to build these but before I go any further I need some detail shots of the rear subframe. floor panels and the posts that
go from the rear part of the floor, over the wheel tub and behind the rear door post. If anyone can help that would be great. I will post pictures as I go along. Here's a start on the sills This is one of the areas I need some photos of. the bracket shown here are for the original wood posts. |

Re: Steeling out a 32 Phaeton
While this is not a 1932 Ford, this 1934 Australian Ford Phaeton is having the non-existent wooden floor replaced by steel. These photos show the progress being made on this local car. The only steel in the original cars went from under the back seat to the rear of the car, refer to top photo which shows some of the original steel floor. Luckily, from 1935 on, our Australian Fords did receive Steel Floors. It is only these early ones that missed out. |

Re: Steeling out a 32 Phaeton
Thanks Mercman, I think the guy who has been working on the 34 and I am on the same page. In fact the way that the 34 has been done is the same as I did my 32 5 window that had been channelled, right down to the top hat sections.
I have stripped a bit more out of the rear tub section but would still like to see some details of the US version to give me some idea how the rear door posts go and how far back the subframe goes. On mine it looks like the wheel tubs support the rear body section. |

Re: Steeling out a 32 Phaeton
I am not 100% sure, but I believe this Rear Floor is out of an Australian 1932 Ford Phaeton. The Bottom picture shows it upside down. Can anyone confirm my suspicions? |

Re: Steeling out a 32 Phaeton
Yes Mercman definitely Aussie 32. It is the rear footwell. I have just taken the one out of mine. It looks to be in about the same condition, I will make a new one.
From what I can make out this is where the transition from wood to the body sitting on the chassis takes place. This is my quandry at the moment, leave the body as is and just taper the subframe into the existing floor or continue the subframe over the arch of the chassis. I would like to know how Henry did it. |
