Default Top Shift 48 Pickup 3 Speed Question

This is kind of an ignorant question. I want to stick an 8BA and this transmission into my 46 pickup to see how things are gonna go. But is there anything special I need to know before I pull the top and shift lever, etc., off the trans before lifting things into the truck? I mean, is anything gonna jump out of there? Trouble lining up shift forks to put it back, anything like that? Thanks!

Merely unbolt the shifter and lift straight up to remove. Make a temporary cover to prevent anything from falling into the transmission. (Cereal box cardboard works well) To replace the shifter, carefully align the forks to the matching grooves in the synchro and low/reverse gear. You may need to move those parts fore or aft to align with the forks.

You dont really need to pull the top plate off the trans . If you are lucky the shift tower will clear the firewall . But when removing the shifter unscrew the round shift cone and watch for the small locating pin at base of the shifter ball wiggle the stick a little and it may slide out enough to grab it with some pliers and remove it. If you decide to pull the whole top just make sure its in neutral before you remove the top, then it should drop straight back in.

Be very careful that you don't drop the pin into the transmission when lifting the stick out.
